In an effort to bridge the gap between local industry and educational institutions, the five cities of Innovate78 hosted “High-tech Talent for Growing Companies.” The networking reception and panel event included representatives from UC San Diego Extension, CSU San Marcos, Palomar College, MiraCosta College and business leaders from Hunter Industries, Colliers International, HME, Nordson Corporation, Sony and many more.
On top of delicious bites and locally brewed beer, the key takeaway from of event: The region’s educational institutions are planning for the future, and are welcoming of insight and feedback from the local business community.
In the words of panelist and innovation expert Dr. Mary Walshok, “Employers are the co-creators of university programming.” If industry calls (with a talent/training need), San Diego educational institutes will answer. We have seen it with the creation of CSU San Marcos’ cybersecurity program, and now with UC San Diego and CSU San Marcos engibeering programs. What will be next?
